Army website launched

For ex-Servicemen who are craving for a second career, jobs may be a mouse click away with the Army launching an e-recruitment portal on Tuesday.

The Army Placement Agency (APA)'s website — www.exarmymenplacement.com — would serve as a common platform for the ``ex-Servicemen on the look out for a second career'' and the agencies searching for such persons.

Launching the portal, Army Chief General J.J. Singh said, ``this is our endeavour to help our energetic, enterprising and productive retired personnel find a suitable job.''

The General said that the new initiative, which saw nine months of ``hard work'' for execution, would open up new avenues of jobs which were otherwise ``restricted'' due to the ``large areas of responsibility bestowed upon by the APA.

The website, which will have an ``all India identity and reach,'' would also provide awareness about the APA.

It would have separate sections for both the job hunters as well as the potential employers and the registration is free of cost.

A security system has also been installed to check all entries for any possible fraud.

The website will also help the personnel to prepare resumes, get interview tips and negotiate salaries. — PTI

Army, Times group unveil placement portal for ex-servicemen
TIMES NEWS NETWORK [ WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29, 2005 12:47:34 AM]
DELHI: The Indian Army on Tuesday launched an online platform to facilitate the entry of retired Army personnel and widows into the corporate world. The platform has been developed by the country's largest media house, the Times group.

The joint venture, an interactive portal of the Army Placement Agency, will help corporates find prospective employees from among officers leaving the force for a second career. “This venture will help these officers with an average productive life of 15 to 20 years ahead, to be war winners in the corporate world”, said the chief of Army staff General Joginder Jaswant Singh after inaugurating the portal. With the penetration of information technology, ex-servicemen and widows in any part of the country can avail of this facility, he added. This is the first Army website hosted outside the ambit of government websites to provide the widest reach in line with the force's goal of ex-Army personnel welfare, General Singh added.

According to Times group MD, Vineet Jain, the partnership is a big step towards redefining the boundaries of e-recruitment. Timesjobs.com, which developed www.exarmymenplacement.com, has been working towards this goal, he said.

The portal facilitates easy navigation and offers tips on resume writing, interviews and negotiation for candidates. For employers, it offers access to a wide-ranging HR pool comprising administrators, engineers and human resource managers. Meanwhile, the Army is planning to increase the recruitment of women officers. General JJ Singh told ET that in the next few years, the force will go in for a big enhancement of its infrastructure and a 10 to 15% increase in women officers.

Their hiring will be in non-combat areas of logistics, signals and intelligence. The force has no plan to recruit women to fight on the frontline. At present, 150 women officers are recruited annually. The present strength of 800 women officers may go up in the coming years as their maximum service limit has recently been enhanced from 10 years to 14 years. The Army has a total officer cadre strength of 40,000.
